Add Locations
This is where you'll add work sites relevant to your field services (locations where work will be performed) — for example: wells, facilities, batteries, tanks, assets, yards, chemical stations, vendor yards, SWDs, etc. During implementation, IronSight typically bulk imports your location list.
When you need to add another Location:
- Click on Locations
- Click New
- Enter a Name
- Select the Cost Center associated with this location (Optional) — this will default the cost center value for any jobs at this location. Tip: create each Cost Center separately before associating it to a location.
- Choose Location Type
- Choose Status (Optional)
- Select the Company that owns this location — this may be your organization or a partner company
- Enter a Description to give field users useful context about the location
- Click Add Parent Location (Optional)
- Add Latitude and Longitude coordinates — 📹 Watch: adding a location with a little help from Google Maps if you don't have coordinates handy
- Click Add Geofence (Optional)
- Add Tags (Optional) — see Location Tag Management for tag types, permissions, and how tags can be used for compliance, pricing, and metadata
- Click Save
Importing Multiple Locations via CSV
| Column | Required? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| SyncKey | ✅ Required | Must be unique per organization — cannot be blank. If unsure what to use, it's common to duplicate the Location Name here. |
| Name | ✅ Required | The Location's display name. |
| Type | ✅ Required | Must be an exact string match to an existing Location Type in your account — a mismatch here will fail that row. |
| Latitude | Optional | If left blank, the location won't be visible in Map view. If you don't have real coordinates yet, use 0, 0 as a placeholder. |
| Longitude | Optional | Same as above. |
| Description | Optional | Free text, gives field users context about the location. |
| Status | Optional | E.g., Active/Inactive. |
| Company | ✅ Required | The organization that owns the location — must be an exact match to an existing Company/Managed Company name in your account. |
| Cost Center | Optional | Must exactly match an existing Cost Center name if provided — this will auto-populate on any job created at this location. |
Parent/ SyncKey | Optional | The SyncKey of an existing location you want this one nested under (e.g., a well nested under a pad). Must match that parent location's SyncKey exactly. |
| Tags | Optional | Composite tags use Category:Value format (e.g., County:Midland); Simple tags are just a text value (e.g., Yard 2). Avoid colons in Simple tags, since a colon signals a Category:Value pair. |
When you click the Import button, you'll find a link to the CSV template. Once you've created your CSV file, click Choose File, then click Upload.
By clicking on the Organization in Admin Portal, you can confirm the success of your location import, indicated by a green checkmark and "Succeeded." If the import only partially succeeds or fails, clicking the History entry will provide details on what caused the failure. Most often it's something easily resolved — but if not, reach out to support and we'll help.
Location and Job Tags
Tags help you categorize and find your data. You can add them to locations and to jobs, using the same categories for both.
Location tags can be useful for:
- Tax and Regulatory Compliance: Tagging locations by state and county for easier reporting.
- Location-Specific Pricing: Grouping locations for consistent pricing in line items.
- Metadata Enrichment: Adding details like well type (sour or sweet) or product type (oil, gas, water) for better analysis.
- Organizing jobs: tagging jobs by area, job type, or review status, like Assigned: North or Parts Needed, so you can filter for them later.
Tag Types
Tags can be created as two different types:
- Composite Tags: the combination of a Category and a Value separated by a colon — e.g.,
Well Type: SourorCounty: Midland. You can create new categories on the fly while tagging; once created, a category is available for future use. Click the downward arrow in the category field to select from existing categories. - Simple Tags: a plain text string — e.g.,
Yard 2. Leave the category field empty and just fill in the value field.
⚠️ Avoid colons in Simple tags — since a colon separates Category from Value in Composite tags, using one in a Simple tag will cause it to be misinterpreted.
Note: Tags are linked to your organization, so any categories or values you create can be reused across locations and jobs. Tags are case-insensitive, so duplicates that only differ in capitalization (e.g., "Tag" and "tag") can't be created.
Permissions
- Adding tags: Anyone with access to a location can add tags.
- Deleting tags: You can only delete tags associated with your own organization. If a tag can't be removed, it won't show an "X" icon in editing mode.

Tip: To find tagged jobs, filter by Tags on the Jobs tab. See Find and Filter Jobs.
Good to know: Some tags are added automatically by IronSight, such as AutoFollowers: Success or OpenTicket: Failure. They show the result of an automation or integration. Leave these tags as they are, since removing them can make troubleshooting harder.
